Clothed Figure


Above are some studies I have done for materials. I particularly like the one in the sketch directly above, though it should have a background to give it dimension and focus. What I like about it is that you can see the twists and folds within the fabric. The other two sketches display some dimension of the material, but not in as much detail as the last sketch.


For this drawing, I approached the figure as a whole, and concentrated on the fabric and the suggestion of the figure underneath. The material in this sketch is a rather shiny one which is warn over the clothes kaftan style. Therefore this is possibly one of the most loose fitting peice of clothing to draw, and indicates only a hint of the models figure underneath. I was pleasantly suprised at how quickly and efficiently I managed to draw this; the sketch only took around thirty five/forty minutes, and the folds and shade almost seemed to appear on the paper in front of me without me having to agonise over the detail. It came very naturally once the limbs had been drawn in, which is pretty early on in the drawing process. The volume and texture followed swiftly afterwards.
